Brooks + Scarpa to receive the Tau Sigma Delta 2024 Gold Medal

Washington, D.C. February 1, 2024 — The Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society in Architecture and Allied Arts along with the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture are pleased to announce Brooks + Scarpa as the recipient of the 2024 Tau Sigma Delta Gold Medal.

The Tau Sigma Delta (TSD) Gold Medal is awarded by the national Grand Chapter to a professional with a record of high distinction in design in the field of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or the Allied Arts. The 2024 award will be presented during the ACSA 112th Annual Meeting to be held in Vancouver, BC, Canada, March 14 -16, 2024 at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre. The TSD Gold Medal will be awarded on Thursday March 14 at the conference opening, followed by the keynote presentation from Brooks + Scarpa.

Angela Brooks, FAIA, Lawrence Scarpa, FAIA, and Jeffrey Huber, FAIA, ASLA are principals of Brooks + Scarpa, which is a collective of architects, designers and creative thinkers dedicated to enhancing the human experience. Honored with the Smithsonian Cooper- Hewitt National Design Award, the firm is a multi-disciplinary practice that includes architecture, landscape architecture, planning, environmental design, materials research, graphic, furniture and interior design services that produce innovative, sustainable, iconic buildings and urban environments.

Brooks + Scarpa has garnered international acclaim for the creative use of materials in unique and unexpected ways. The firm has also been recognized for pioneering more holistic approaches to delivering award winning environmentally responsive designs. The firm was awarded the 2022 AIA Gold Medal, recognizing the numerous achievements in architecture, sustainable design, and social equity. The firm’s work has been exhibited worldwide including venues such as The Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, The National Building Museum, Venice Biennale, Portland Museum of Art and the Gwanju Biennale.

They are also co-founders of the A+D Museum, Los Angeles, Affordable Housing Design Leadership Institute and Livable Places, Inc.; a nonprofit development and public policy organization dedicated to building mixed-use housing and to help develop more sustainable and livable communities. Their new book, SALTY URBANISM:A Design Manual for Sea Level Rise Adaptation in Urban Areas is now available.

The firm’s projects include the CAM Museum of Art, DC Alexander Park, Mennello Museum of American Art, Ministry of the Environment Water Agriculture Complex ,Solar Umbrella House The Six Disabled Veteran Housing, and the United States Federal Courthouse Los Angeles.
