The 2026 Design for Aging Competition aims to inspire innovative design solutions that foster meaningful intergenerational connections and prioritize the well-being of older adults. Students are encouraged to propose a design solution that supports interactions among older adults, students, and others within campus-based and community settings.⁠
⁠
Submissions should promote the emotional and physical health of each user’s generation by integrating wellness, biophilic elements, environmentally responsible strategies and materials, and design features that support the diverse needs of individuals of all ages and abilities.⁠
⁠
Created in partnership with the AIA Design for Aging (DFA) Knowledge Community, this competition is open to students from all ACSA member schools around the world.⁠

Successful proposals will include methods and themes that innovate within their institutional setting—asking hard questions of students that are equal in weight to the hard questions being asked of society as it continues to grapple with the intertwined causes and effects of climate change.⁠

Graduate students in architecture at U.S. universities face limits on the amount of federal student loans they can access as a result of proposed policy changes related to the federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). The U.S. Department of Education (ED) is in the process of classifying which degrees are eligible to access a higher level of federal student loans. The ED will draft a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and open it for public comment before issuing final rules in 2026.⁠

The 2026 Steel Competition challenges students to explore a variety of design issues related to the use of steel in design and construction. Steel must be used as the primary structural material with a special emphasis placed on innovation in steel design. Students are invited to participate in the following categories: ⁠
⁠
Category I: Community Dance Center⁠
Design a Community Dance Center in an area of your choice. Students are invited to submit design proposals that address how this program can contribute to the community as a more integral part of the civic fabric.⁠
⁠
Category II: Open⁠
Offers architecture students the opportunity to select a site and building program using steel as the primary material. This competition category permits any building type other than a Community Dance Center.⁠
⁠
This competition is open to students and/or student teams from ACSA Full and Candidate Member Schools; as well as ACSA Affiliate Member Schools from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.⁠

ACSA held its 2025 Intersections Research Conference: AI Design Practices in Boston, MA, on September 25-27, 2025. Hosted by the Wentworth Institute of Technology, School of Architecture and Design (@witarchitecturedesign), the conference featured stimulating events, insightful roundtables, and thought-provoking sessions that explored the extensive capabilities of AI.⁠

“The 2025 Intersections allowed faculty, practitioners, researchers, and students to come together and share their expertise and curiosity on the past, present, and future of artificial intelligence,” says ACSA President José L.S.
