Below are add-on tours offered in conjunction with the 2026 International Conference. These tours require registration and include an additional fee.

North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) Architectural Tour

Pre-Conference Bus Tour

This full‑day guided tour to Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) offers an immersive experience of the island’s architecture, landscapes and cultural contexts. Travelling by ferry from the mainland, participants will explore a curated selection of sites across the island, combining coastal landscapes, built works and place‑based narratives connected to Country.

The tour will include visits to architectural projects on Minjerribah, including a project by keynote speakers Kauntiz Yeung, alongside broader discussions of design, practice and place within the unique island setting. The itinerary also allows time to experience key coastal locations and local sites of significance, providing context for architectural thinking within ecological and cultural systems.

The tour is operated by Hit the Road Tours and includes return ferry transport and guided travel across the island. Please bring extra money for food and drinks on the day.

Brisbane Centenary Pool Tour

Modernism, Legacy and Olympic Futures
This event offers a guided visit to Brisbane’s iconic Centenary Pool, a celebrated example of Queensland “Hot Modernism” designed by James Birrell in 1956 (in parallel with the Melbourne Olympics). The visit will focus on the architectural, climatic and civic significance of the pool, exploring its enduring design qualities and place within Brisbane’s modern architectural lineage.

Participants will be joined by practising architects for a conversation on the proposed expansion of the site as part of the Brisbane Olympic Aquatic Centre, providing insight into contemporary challenges of adaptive reuse, heritage, scale and public infrastructure design in a major global sporting context.

The event will conclude with a group lunch in Fortitude Valley, offering an informal setting for continued discussion and networking.

Architecture Brisbane Tour

Walking Tour

Old and New: River, City and Cultural Precincts
This guided walking tour explores Brisbane’s architectural evolution through a curated journey spanning significant civic, cultural and contemporary projects. Beginning at the Supreme Court of Queensland, participants will consider the role of institutional architecture and public space within the city’s historic legal precinct.

The tour continues across the Kurilpa Bridge, one of Brisbane’s most distinctive pieces of pedestrian infrastructure, offering discussion on urban connectivity, landscape integration and contemporary bridge design. From here, the walk moves through the South Bank Cultural Precinct, including the South Bank Arbour, examining the transformation of former industrial riverfront land into a nationally significant cultural and recreational landscape.

The tour concludes at Emporium South Bank, where participants are invited to gather for drinks at sunset, providing an informal opportunity for conversation, reflection and networking.
