The School of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is seeking to fill its distinguished Bedford Visiting Professorship, a three-year contractual (non-tenure-track) appointment that will bring an internationally renowned structural engineer to the school to oversee our interdisciplinary courses designed for architecture and civil engineering students. The term of this position will be August 2025 – July 2028.
The successful candidate must have extensive practical experience and will be committed to interdisciplinary education, practice and/or research. They will be able to demonstrate exemplary leadership in the design and delivery of innovative engineering/architectural projects. Candidates must have expertise in building systems, systems integration, and in technologies supporting innovative approaches to design and construction. Candidates who collaborate with leading architectural professionals are especially encouraged to apply. A master’s degree in engineering (or foreign degree equivalent) and a PE license are required; a doctorate in engineering (or foreign degree equivalent) and an SE license will be a plus. The successful candidate will be expected to teach one day per week (two interdisciplinary courses each semester that are in seminar and studio format) and to organize and participate in an annual international traveling workshop that is typically held at the end of the spring semester.
