Two new members have joined the faculty of the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture at the University of Houston this fall:

Assistant Professor Wendy W. Fok has come to reinforce and further develop the digital media and design area of the program. She has earned her BA from Columbia University and her M. Arch. from Princeton. Her area of expertise are Design Fabrication, Materials Research, Digital Craft and Methods. Previously, before joining the GDH COA, Wendy has been teaching at several universities in the United States, Europe and Asia, such as the  Chinese University of Hong Kong and  University of Florida – Gainesville. Wendy is also the founder of WE-DESIGNS.ORG, LLC and (C)ODE-(C)OLLECTIVE.

Assistant Professor Gregory Marinic came to the GDH COA from Universidad de Monterrey, Monterrey, Mexico where he had been in charge of the development of a curriculum for the interior design program. Gregory’s position at the GDH COA is that of a Director of Interior Architecture charged to develop the newly installed interior architecture program. Gregory’s degrees are from Ohio University (B.Sc.) and the University of Maryland (M. Arch.), he previously also taught at the Pratt Institute. He is the co-founder of d3, a New York-based organization committed to advancing innovative positions in art, architecture, and design, and principal of Archipelago, a design practice.

Assistant Professor Wendy Fok’s practice will be one of the eight firms featured for the “emerging Canadian design practices”, curated by Lola Sheppard and Heather Dubbelham, for Twenty+Change 03 Exhibition (October 1st to October 16th, 2011; Harbourfront Centre, Toronto). Professor Fok was also an invited exhibitor for AAC’s Digital Futures exhibition in Shanghai August 2011, curated by Neil Leach & Philip Yuan, alongside other pioneering international design practices, including: Zaha Hadid Architects, UN Studio, Greg Lynn FORM, SPAN, Evan Douglas Studio, Aranda/Lasch, among many others that are engaging in computational and digital fabrication strategies in architecture.

They were also invited to present at the Toronto Fall architecture week.
