The Department of Architecture at Ball State University seeks enthusiastic teachers and mentors to focus on design studio instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The College of Architecture and Planning offers a five-year professional B.Arch. Program, a four-year pre-professional BA/BS program, a four-year Bachelor of Environmental Design program, and a professional M.Arch. Program. Faculty teach in a variety of settings, including three sites in Muncie, Indiana and one in downtown Indianapolis.

The non-tenure line opportunities begin on August 21, 2026, continue through April 30, 2027, and are renewable at the discretion of the Chair. Teaching responsibilities are on-campus, in Muncie, IN.

Position Function: Primary responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate-level architecture, with an emphasis on design, including foundational and upper-level design studios and or support classes (lectures and seminars). Opportunities to teach in areas including, but not limited to, architectural building technology, structures, building systems integration, and related social science may be available.

Duties and Responsibilities: Teaching Expectations: A base load of 24 hours per academic year will be assigned to teaching. The base load typically consists of 12 hours per semester, which may include two studios (each with a 6-hour load) or one design studio (with a 6-hour load) and two lecture/seminar courses (each with a 3-hour load). Other: The faculty member may be required to perform other related duties and service as assigned by the Department Chairperson in place of a portion of the teaching load.

Minimum Qualifications: Master of Architecture (or bachelor’s in architecture and master’s degree in an allied discipline) from an accredited university required by date of appointment, demonstrated ability to teach design studio and related courses in a professional degree program.

Preferred Qualifications: Professional practice experience; evidence of outstanding design skills and excellence in architectural design work; evidence of contributions to the profession; evidence of excellence in contemporary design and teaching methodology. Demonstrated ability to teach at a foundational level as well as upper-level design studios, and prior experience teaching at the collegiate level.
