Assistant Professor, Interior Design

The University of Louisville is accepting applications for a tenure-track appointment beginning in fall 2023 at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Interior Design area of the Department of Art and Design.

The Department of Art and Design, endowed as the Hite Institute of Art and Design, offers degrees at the BA, BFA, MA, and MFA levels with concentrations in Design, Studio Art, Art History, and Curatorial Studies. The new faculty member in Interior Design will join an art and design community that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and rigorous research supported by substantial endowments and a dedicated art and design library. The Department operates on-campus and downtown galleries with active exhibition schedules and connects faculty and students with Louisville\’s design community, thriving arts scene, and creative growth industries.

Qualifications for consideration include a terminal degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or closely related field. NCIDQ certification is preferred or should be obtained within three years of hire (supported by the department). Responsibilities include advising and instruction at the undergraduate level, shared stewardship over CIDA-accreditation, and participation in the development of new curricula around research-based design and client-based experiential learning.

Applicants must present evidence of an established or emerging scholarly profile and knowledge of theoretical discourses and contemporary practices in Interior Design. They should describe their interest in promoting diversity and inclusion and in engaging in collaborative and community-based activities. Special knowledge of design software, fabrication technology, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality/augmented reality is especially desired.
