Questions around how the new class of online networkingplatforms can generate new types of humaninteractions and how the new media can help achievehumans’ goals have been key subjects of study in manyresearch fields, including computer science, sociology,planning. To further the inquiry into these questions,we may need to re-visit some of the key concepts aboutthe relationship between the information and communicationstechnologies and the society. This literaturereview essay intends to serve this purpose by enlistingand summarizing a series of different schools ofthought in the creation of community in the digital era.
