Spatial Structure as an Architectural Performance Metric

Fall Conference Proceedings

Author(s): Julie Brand Zook

Designers intuitively understand space as a distinguishing characteristicof architecture and urbanism. Space itself, however, resistsdescription. In our everyday conception of it, space is boundless andmostly formless, and so it does not readily lend itself to analyticalapproaches. When designing or assessing design proposals, intuitionand precedent are often used to forecast or predict the effects ofspace on how a design will be.
