For a city facing its back to the river punctuated with isolated Ghats and disconnected development proposal, the project proposes an comprehensive development solution addressing vital civic concerns like public space, lack of facilities along with environmental awareness and ecological restoration. Stakeholders participation and consultation has been a continual course of action promoting public understanding and awareness. The project connects existing fragmented open spaces to provide a continuous public space along the river aiding in religious festivities and recreation. Land pooling, consolidation, developing access roads are key to the overall urban strategy. Riparian edge restoration protects the littoral zone aiding river dolphins, local flora and fauna to thrive. Designed as a multi-purpose space, the promenade would have a range of facilities to engage the users and act as magnetizing cause for flow of people of all age groups. Ghats are used by the city for various activities, aiming at developing Ghat- prototypes that could create a typology for the river edge, ultimately providing an active public edge. Integration of heritage precincts and buildings in protects the dilapidated heritage buildings and highlights existing indigenous ones of cultural importance. As a holistic development of the river edge, the proposal promotes a walkable city, creating larger usable open spaces and being sensitive to local context.
