Bridging Between Interior and Environmental Stewardship

A four-week elective course to design andbuild a children’s playhouse benefiting CourtAppointed Special Advocates (CASA) offereda pedagogical bridge between introductoryideas of design-build and research-basedcomponents of inhabitable space. This pedagogicallyadaptive project provided a learningenvironment where 1st – 5th year Universityof Oklahoma Architecture students verticallyinteracted with each other and faculty outsidethe constraints of the typical design studio,allowing diversity of theoretical approaches,material sensitivities, and organizationalmethodologies.
