Anistropia: Morpho-generative Sound Analysis

International Proceedings

Author(s): Christoph Klemmt

As different as music and architecture are, the two forms of art also share aclose relationship, and many composition and design concepts can becomeapplicable to both. This essay explains some of the historical relations betweenthe two disciplines, and how research by architects Orproject exploresdigital formations and algorithmic aggregations using sound and music. Bytransforming time-based attributes into spatial dimensions, the harmonicbehaviours of a sound over time can be turned into complex geometries, which, due to the sound’s inherent logics, can become suitable morphologiesfor architectural applications.
