The world is fighting with research and development towards perfection and up-gradation of each sector for better produce and larger yield. India on the other hand has accolades in both secondary and tertiary sector. The frontrunner for our primary sector is the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). A collaborative work on dry-land agriculture is being carried out by ICAR. The proposition is to construct a research institute for development where the profit trickles down to the farmer. The motive of the program is to promote urban agriculture and community development. The design of the research centre aims to make the building an iconic feature and also be flexible at the same time. Being a laboratory block the floors need to be adjustable with time for minimal hindrance and also expandable. The exposed structure fits with the slabs like a cassette and suspended in the air. The crop demonstration blocks have been placed to showcase the seasonal crops successfully researched upon; these blocks are an integral part of the exhibition centre. The combination of blocks and exhibition makes promenade as the face and will be extensively exposed to the public. Horizontal and vertical vistas foster a communal spirit. Generous public spaces made accessible, while the restricted areas within labs float over the main level. Visually connecting two distinct zones, yet secure. The culmination of a commercial and a research institute will flourish and enable different societies to work together and advance using one another’s strength in the field of agriculture.
