Time Management and the Architecture Student- Some Guidance

Column by Barbara Opar, column editor, Librarian for Architecture, Syracuse University Libraries

Those of us in academia have certainly seen many changes in the student population over the past several years. For me as a supervisor of students, these changes have had serious implications with respect to the operation of a small branch library. In a conversation with a colleague, she directed me to a source that I believe will be of use in training both employees as well enrolled students.
The book is: McGuire, Saundra Yancy. Teach Yourself How to Learn. Oxfordshire: Routledge, 2018. ISBN: 9781620367568. 160 Pages. $19.96. There is a chapter devoted just to time management.

This article also describes some of her suggested techniques. If you prefer, YouTube has a brief video which addresses her instructions.

While looking for McGuire’s book, I came across another title in a similar vein that looks promising: Brown, Peter. Make it Stick: The Science of Successful learning. Cambridge: Belknap Press, 2014. ISBN: 9780674729018. 336 Pages. $29.70.
Here too there is a YouTube video that discusses the major points of Brown’s book.
Wishing you a successful teaching year.
