The College of Design, Construction and Planning (DCP) at the University of Florida invites applications for up to four (4) open-rank tenure-track faculty positions under the theme of ‘Resilient, Smart, Sustainable and Healthy Built Environments’. These positions are part of a major new initiative to build on the College’s strength in the design, construction and planning of the built environment.
The successful candidates will form the core faculty for the University’s proposed Florida Institute for Built Environment Resilience (FIBER), with the most senior hire assuming the position of Director of the Institute. Candidates should hold a PhD or professional graduate degree and be tenure-eligible in one of the DCP units of Architecture, Construction Management, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning. Competitive candidates should have strong and innovative research expertise in one or more of the following research areas:
Landscapes and Communities
- Embedded resilience in existing and future urban environments;
- Designs that revive inner city neighborhoods and/or minimize urban sprawl;
- Urban Metabolism;
- Impact of climate change Building and Facility Systems
- Design of environmental systems for buildings that enhance human wellbeing and productivity;
- Use of renewable resources, innovative material research and/or reuse of existing materials in design and construction of buildings Infrastructure Systems
- Distributed energy systems;
- Socio-technical systems design;
- Design of transportation systems to reinforce compact community design and to enhance livability;
- Critical infrastructure systems Technology
- Computer-based modeling and simulation of built environment interdependencies;
- Systems thinking, system of systems concepts and intelligent/smart systems;
The Florida Institute for Built Environment Resilience (FIBER) is positioned to become a key global player in the planning, design, construction and management of built environments and, in addition to developing close interaction with existing faculty, centers and initiatives within DCP, it will seek to build strong collaboration with other colleges and entities at UF, and with international centers of excellence.
DCP is uniquely equipped to address the major challenges posed by rapid urbanization, climatic and demographic changes, sustainability imperatives, and the need for synergy between the built and natural environments. It houses all the critical disciplines that have an impact on the planning, design, construction and sustainability of built and natural environments.
Established in 1925, DCP is a preeminent college of design, construction and planning. The Fall 2016 enrollment of 1,400 students includes approximately 900 undergraduates and 500 graduate students (120 PhD students). The College employs over 140 academic, research, administrative support and other staff, which includes 54 tenured or tenure-track faculty members.
