The School of Architecture is one of five schools within the College of Design. Other schools include Building Construction, City and Regional Planning, Industrial Design, and Music. The SoA has over 350 students in five degree-granting programs: B.S. in Architecture, Master of Architecture, M.S. in Architecture, M.S. in Urban Design, and Ph.D. in Architecture. The Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Architecture invites applications for a senior faculty member working on the social and psychological dimensions of the built environment, with a particular focus on health and design. The School of Architecture at Georgia Tech has an internationally reputed program in social and psychological dimensions of the built environment, with a PhD specialization in Architecture, Culture, and Behavior, and an MS degree in Health and Design.
The position offers the opportunity to take a senior role at the SimTigrate Design Lab (SDL). SDL founded in 2010, is one of the flagship research centers within the College of Design. Working with a full-time staff of four, the lab finds and tests ideas for creating empowering healthcare and community settings. SDL works with a wide range of partners within Georgia Tech and nationally such as Emory Healthcare, Mayo Clinic, the Pacific Northwest National Lab, US Military Health System, design firms and others, and has received over $11M in research funding.
The School, College and Georgia Tech strongly support innovation and collaborative research and teaching, with university-wide resources such as the Institute for People and Technology and multiple seed grants supporting health and healthcare research and design that crosses the Colleges of Design, Engineering, Computing, Sciences, and Liberal Arts.
The successful candidate will have a strong research agenda, excellent leadership and collaboration skills, and a passion for teaching and scholarship. The job requires assuming a primary role in developing curricular content for the degree programs at the school. It also includes mentoring PhD students concentrating in Architecture, Culture, and Behavior. The position also calls for extensive participation in the SDL in collaboration with SDL’s executive director, helping to secure funding and ensuring that its objectives, targets, strategies, and performance contribute to the success of the School, the College of Design and Georgia Tech.
PhD in architecture or allied field (e.g., architectural engineering, psychology, public health, medicine, or industrial design) with expertise in either design or research demonstrated through a successful record of publication, research, and teaching.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
