Assistant Professor, Architectural Structures


The College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in the area of Architectural Structures and Design, to begin August 2023. The College seeks to build on more than five decades of groundbreaking research, epitomized by work in long-span structures and tall buildings conducted here by Myron Goldsmith, Fazlur Kahn and others.

Candidates must demonstrate expertise in the development and application of advanced structural technologies for buildings. They should have experience integrating innovative structures and building envelope systems into studio-based design teaching in architecture; the ability to synthesize structural concepts and building form; and facility with integrating research interests or professional creative practice into teaching. This position will include responsibility for foundational instruction in statics and mechanics and advanced courses related to the candidate’s research interests in and in support of our programs.

The position will help lead the integration of building science across the College’s degree programs (Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Architecture, Master of High Performance Buildings, Master of Landscape Architecture+ Urbanism, Master of Science, Master of Tall Buildings and Vertical Urbanism, and Doctor of Philosophy). In addition to their areas of specialization, all candidates should demonstrate an ability to contribute to the intellectual life of a studio-focused architecture school. We will expect active participation in the College and the University through student advising, design reviews, committee service, curricular development, and contributions to College publications and events.

Candidates should have a Master’s degree in architecture or structural/architectural engineering (or international equivalents). A Ph.D. and/or professional licensure are desirable.
