The School of Architecture in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University invites qualified applications for the following position: a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor in Architecture. Position responsibilities include teaching and advancing a research agenda through scholarship and/or creative practice together with participation in the responsibilities of the School, College, University, and community. The School of Architecture is interested in candidates with an innovative vision for thinking about architectural foundations, and who can integrate computational design approaches within the constraints of normative professional practice. Important consideration will be given to candidates with a record of teaching Foundation Design studios. Candidates should present evidence of success with both analog and digital modes of representation (conventional and unconventional) as well as the processes and outcomes achieved in design studios.

Summary of Responsibilities

The successful candidate will primarily teach first and second-year design studio courses during the 9-month academic year. The successful candidate will also serve as Coordinator for the Foundations Program in the School of Architecture on our Boca Raton campus. This includes overseeing all 1000 and 2000 level architecture courses. This individual is expected to participate in service activities at the School, College and University levels, as assigned by the Director of the School, and will work with the Director and Associate Director of the School of Architecture to coordinate the school’s Foundation and Professional curricula.

Candidates who demonstrate a track record of scholarly excellence (including externally funded research, creative activities, publications, and/or excellence in design), combined with expertise in teaching foundations studios are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates are expected to foster and create educational opportunities where all student populations thrive, and must have one of the following at the time of application:

  • a professional Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degree; or
  • a combination of a professional B.Arch and one of the following:
    • a post-professional Master of Architecture; or
    • a post-professional Master of Science degree in Architecture; or
    • a post-professional Master of Arts degree in Architecture; or
    • a post-professional Master’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Design or related specialization.

Experience in teaching foundations studios, as well as research, design and fabrication are desired. Professional Licensure or PhD in area of specialization is preferred.

Salary:  Commensurate with experience.
