The School of Architecture at Mississippi State University invites applicants for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank with expertise in history and theory. The anticipated start date is Fall 2026. The successful candidate will help shape and teach the history course sequence and teach in the design studio, which provides avenues to investigate historical and social issues in architectural projects. As part of a college that includes departments of art, interior design, and building construction science, there are opportunities to collaborate with design historians to serve the minors, concentrations, and graduate certificates of the college. The planned graduate program also holds potential for teaching history/theory at the graduate level.

Mississippi provides a rich setting for examining social, cultural, economic, and political issues and their effect on the built environment. As the only accredited program in the state, the School of Architecture takes a leading role in regional discussions and studies of this context. New faculty receive start-up packages to support research, which may be used for travel, undergraduate research assistants, and other needs.

Professional experience and licensure in architecture (or on track to licensure) or a Ph.D. (ABD acceptable) is required. Design studio teaching experience is preferred but not required. The School of Architecture encourages diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives. We invite candidates who can collaborate with our faculty who share diverse viewpoints.
