The Department of Architecture at the University of New Mexico is currently accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track position to teach Architectural Design at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The position is a 9-month faculty appointment (mid-August to mid-May each academic year) beginning in August of 2025 located in Albuquerque, NM.

The Position:

The Department of Architecture welcomes candidates with expertise in architectural design and new perspectives in teaching the beginning design student. The successful candidate will have the knowledge and experience to teach and coordinate lower division studios. The candidate will also serve on department and school committees and participate in other department, school, and university activities. Our school thrives when our faculty broadens our perspectives and brings new conversations to our community. The successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of excellence in research, scholarship, and/or creative work including research-based architectural practice. Areas of expertise may include representation, visualization, design and design processes, fabrication and investigation of new technologies, or scholarship of teaching and learning.

Required Qualifications:

  1. A terminal degree in Architecture (M Arch, post-professional master’s degree, or PhD).
  2. Demonstrated potential to coordinate and teach undergraduate and/or graduate design studios
  3. A demonstrated record of accomplishment in scholarly work or other peer-reviewed activity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated ability to teach, co-teach, and/or coordinate required undergraduate and/or graduate design studios or workshops.
  2. Innovative research, scholarship, creative work, and/or practice, as recognized in publications, workshops, conference presentations, practice recognition, etc.
  3. A proven commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

In addition to these degree programs, The School of Architecture and Planning also hosts three community-focused research centers: The Design and Planning Assistance Center (DPAC), Research Center for Raza Planning (RCRP), and the Indigenous Design + Planning Institute (iD+Pi).

  • Speculative and/or previously taught Studio Syllabus (up to two syllabi, total), – authored by the applicant.
