Conducts the nomination and election of officers, ACSA representative on NAAB Board, and NAAB Visiting Team candidates. Shall consist of three or more appointed members. The term of service on the committee shall be one year.

The ACSA Board of Directors invites applications for service on the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) Board of Directors for a three-year term (January 2026–December 2028).⁠

ACSA seeks nominations from faculty at a range of schools, including public/private institutions, research-intensive institutions, special-focus institutions, and minority-serving institutions. We encourage nominations of faculty who are familiar with ACSA’s recent efforts to support architecture schools seeking to be more equitable and inclusive for faculty and students from all backgrounds, and with ACSA’s efforts to support the recognition of a wide range of approaches to research and scholarship, including creative practice.⁠

🟢 May is Mental Health Awareness Month 🟢⁠

This month, we’re spotlighting the work of the 2024–25 ACSA Leadership Committee, which is charged with addressing mental health and well-being for architecture faculty, with a focus on equity-related challenges.⁠
⁠
While much attention has been given to student wellness, faculty mental health remains under-researched—especially for lecturers, non-tenure-track, and tenured faculty. A 2024 study revealed that nearly 60% of faculty and staff experienced moderate to very high levels of work-related burnout.⁠
⁠
The committee is reviewing national data, leading conversations at ACSA conferences, and working toward a resource to support healthier, more equitable work and learning environments across architecture programs.⁠

Last week, Dr. Kendall Nicholson, ACSA’s Senior Director of Research, Equity and Education, presented at the Society of Architectural Historians' (@sah1365) 78th Annual International Conference in Atlanta. The session “Lessons Learned: Architectural Studies Programs in Schools of Architecture” invited educators and administrators in architectural history and architecture to discuss the value of Architectural Studies programs.⁠

“In addition to architectural history, it was great to see SAH’s expanded field to include preservation, history, planning and architecture,” said Nicholson. “Affiliate groups at the SAH allow members to gather around similar research topics, and it was an honor to be invited to the Architectural Studies affiliate group.”⁠

Last month, educators, practitioners, and students gathered in New Orleans, LA, to attend ACSA’s 113th Annual Meeting. ⁠
⁠
Taking place 20 years after Hurricane Katrina, the conference’s theme of “repair” was at the forefront of programming as attendees engaged in nuanced conversations and collective problem-solving. Together, conference participants exchanged ideas during concurrent sessions, listened to thought-provoking keynotes, celebrated the winners of the 2025 Architectural Education Awards, and embarked on tours that highlighted the history and culture of New Orleans.⁠

Hosted by Tulane University (@tulanearch), conference attendees also had the opportunity to explore the school’s campus, including the newly renovated School of Architecture and Built Environment building.⁠

In the context of destabilizing attacks on higher education and the disappointment and disagreement among our community regarding the ACSA Board’s decision to halt work on Issue 79.2 of the Journal of Architectural Education (JAE), titled Palestine, we invite all members to participate in a discussion about this evolving landscape. This Member Caucus will continue opportunities to discuss ways that ACSA and member schools can work together and independently to address the broad political threats challenging our shared values and goals. We invite reflections on the division within our diverse organization and feedback on future communication, decision-making, and collaboration that bring our community together. ⁠

Last month, ACSA and AIA held their joint ACSA/AIA Intersections Research Conference in Austin, TX, January 9-11, 2025. Hosted by the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture, the conference explored housing as a process, a product, and a place. The ACSA/AIA Intersections Research Conference coincided with the AIAS FORUM in Austin, creating an opportunity for each organization’s respective audience of educators, practitioners, and students to come together for a weekend of scholarly exchange. ⁠
