Three General Services Administration (GSA)high performing buildings recently won AIACOTE Top Ten Awards, achieving design excellence,implementing innovative energy systemswhile at the same time meeting stringentFederal guidelines. This case study researchhighlighted the team practices that supportedcollaborative decision-making and effectiveleadership. All three buildings achieved a highlevel of technical sophistication, using systemsnot commonly seen such as geothermal piles,radiant cooled ceilings, phase-change salts anda historic-preservation-compatible solar array.The decision-making process used to developthese unusual applications reveals the importanceof investment in partnering, framing ofcommon goals and the development of “swifttrust”.
