Call for Editorial Board Members (2022 – 2025)

JOURNAL OF ARCHITECTURAL EDUCATION

Call for Editorial Board Members (2022 – 2025)

The Journal of Architectural Education invites applications for at-large positions on the Editorial Board. Founded in 1947, JAE is published twice a year by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA). It is the primary venue for peer-reviewed research and commentary on architectural education and has been for 75 years. In this time, architectural education has evolved, as has the nature of architectural scholarship. With this call, the JAE seeks to continue reflecting these important shifts by building an editorial board that encompasses the full breadth of practices in architectural education, research, and scholarship.

Every year, the Editorial Board invites a new cohort of Editorial Board Members for a three-year term. Currently, we seek up to three Editorial Board members who are actively involved in research and teaching on disability studies, social geography, histories and theories of landscape or landscape architecture, architecture and race, architecture and gender, climate change and climate justice, environmental justice, and activism. Applicants should be architectural educators, but need not be tenure-track or tenured, though your institution must provide support for your travel to two editorial board meetings per year. Members may not publish their own work in the journal during their term of service.

Editorial Board members attend and participate in biannual Editorial Board meetings and committee meetings each year; they participate in standing and ad hoc committees that contribute to the content of the journal and its initiatives; they review manuscripts as requested by the editors; they propose theme issues with colleagues from beyond the editorial board; they promote calls for papers within their respective networks; and they contribute to building an architectural discourse around the JAE by engaging in the disciplinary community and the broader readership beyond academia—from participating in discussions about the journal and its initiatives at ACSA to engaging in JAE’s social media platforms.

Terms of service are for three years, with the possibility of renewing for an additional term, and shall officially begin on July 1, 2022. This call for Editorial Board members is international. We encourage applications from Black, Indigenous/Native, and People of Color, and individuals teaching at minority-serving institutions. The Editorial Board seeks a diverse editorial board that reflects a range of disciplinary topics, research methodologies, and demographic characteristics, including race, gender, national origin, geographic location, and institution type.

To apply, please send the following in one PDF to info@acsa-arch.org: (1) a cover letter that addresses your potential to contribute to both the editorial mission of the JAE and the journal’s commitment to justice, equity, and inclusion (2 pages, maximum), and (2) a current CV (3 pages, maximum). Please use the subject line “JAE Editorial Board,” and send no later than February 1, 2022. Direct any inquiries to eeditor@acsa-arch.org. The JAE Editors and Editorial Board will review and recommend candidates for approval by the ACSA Board of Directors in the Spring of 2022.
