Ozayr Saloojee named as Incoming JAE Associate Editor of Design
For Immediate Release: Washington D.C., January 27, 2021—Ozayr Saloojee has been named the incoming Associate Editor of Design for the Journal of Architectural Education. Saloojee is an Associate Professor at Carleton’s Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism in Ottawa. Beyond his personal research and teaching, Saloojee is creating new platforms for students to engage in critically important studio work surrounding equity, justice, contested territories, radical acts of joy, and more. He will join the board on July 1, 2021.
Saloojee is also a co-director of the Carleton Urban Research Lab and cross-appointed faculty at the university’s Institute for African Studies. Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, he has taught in Canada, Europe, and the US. He completed his B.Arch. and post-professional M.Arch. (Theory and Culture), at Carleton University and completed his doctoral work at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. His teaching and academic interests investigate politically contested terrains through the intersections of architecture, landscape, and geo-imaginaries, including sites in the Great Lakes, as well as South Africa, Turkey, and the Middle East. His work explores themes and questions of equity, infrastructure, water, decoloniality, story-telling, and the accountability of love.

He assumes this editorial position from Carolina Dayer, who has most ably contributed to shaping JAE’s design discourse since 2017. The Journal of Architectural Education is a biannual peer-reviewed academic journal published by Routledge on behalf of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture. The JAE has been the primary venue for research and commentary on architectural education since it was founded in 1947, making it the oldest continuously operating journal of its kind. As incoming Executive Editor, Nora Wendl will work with the JAE Editorial Board to shape journal themes that embrace both timeless and timely issues within architectural design, history, theory, and pedagogy, while overseeing and maintaining the peer-review process for the print journal and curating online content for both JAEOnline.org and JAE’s social media.
About the ACSA Founded in 1912 by 10 charter members, ACSA has grown to represent over 200 schools in several membership categories, including full membership for all accredited programs in the United States and government-sanctioned schools in Canada, candidate membership for schools seeking accreditation, and affiliate membership for schools with two-year and international programs.
