“El Inventario Conceptual de Valerio Olgiati (Valerio Olgiati’s Ideational Inventory)” by Associate Professor Dr. Markus Breitschmid, Ph.D., S.I.A., part of the monograph on the œuvre of the Swiss architect, was published in El Croquis, No. 156, Madrid: 2011.

Associate Professor Michael Ermann created three dynamic video animations directed at architecture students learning air conditioning and HVAC systems. They cover the compression-refrigeration cycle, chillers, cooling towers, AHUs, geo-exchange systems, the economizer cycle, and a bit of active heating. Seventeen third-year students of an architecture studio, lead by visiting professors Keith Zawistowski and Marie Zawistowski, were awared with a 2011 Merit Award for Excellence in Architecture for the Covington Farmers Market in Covington, Virginia, initiated as a design /build project, by AIA Virginia Society.

Former director of the School of Architecture + Design Professor Scott Poole, A.I.A., has been conferred the “professor emeritus” title by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors. Professor Poole was the school’s director from 2004 to 2011. He also was the Chair of Foundation Studies for three years prior to his directorship. In July, Poole became the dean of the College of Architecture and Design at the University of Tennessee.
