Tenure & Promotion

ACSA Research & Scholarship Committee

The Research & Scholarship Committee leads ACSA’s efforts to support faculty in scholarly endeavors. The committee monitors and assesses ACSA programs involving peer review and recognition, and recommends actions to advocate for support for architectural research and scholarship.

For the Research & Scholarship Committee, in the 2016-2017 academic year, they were specifically charged with drafting a comprehensive white paper about policies for tenure and promotion in architectural education. ACSA Member programs can use this statement as a reference point for the development of their own tenure policies, based on local conditions. The white paper addresses multiple forms of scholarship, including the scholarship of design, the scholarship of engagement, and evaluating faculty practice projects. Finally, the task force should draw from a range of existing policies and reference tenure/promotion practices in related disciplines as necessary.
