Leader: Richard Cleary, University of Texas at Austin. Participants will board tour bus at Omni Downtown beginning at 2:30 p.m.; they will be shuttled to the campus and dropped back off at hotel by 5:15 p.m.

This tour will emphasize the impact that ambitious campus planning has had, not only on the physical environment, but also on the image and character on the university as an institution.  We will look at the seminal directions established by Cass Gilbert, Paul Cret, Cesar Pelli and Sasaki over the last century.

Downtown - A walking tour of Austin’s  “Warehouse District” (Southwest Quadrant.) In the last ten years, the district has emerged as an extremely desirable multiuse area of condos, offices, restaurants, retail, and entertainment venues. Property values are the highest in the city. The public investment in “Great Streets” is the main driving forced and 2nd St. is the backbone reaching from the west end at Shoal Creek, to the east end at the Convention Center and Waller Creek.

St. Edward's Campus - A walking tour of the core St. Edward's campus including the historic Main building, Trustee Hall (constructed in 2003) and newly renovated Fleck Hall. The tour will examine the nature of designing new buildings within the historic context of the a university campus. The renovation of Fleck Hall, a post WWII structure  converted in 2006 to a new classroom/meeting facility will be toured as well and discussion of adaptive re-use and sustainable design will be the topic of discussion. I will also talk about how these new projects have contributed to the St. Edward's campus over the past several years.

Tickets to the tour can be purchased by call ACSA directly (832.788.3679) or onsite in Austin, as space allows.
