The School of Architecture Planning and Landscape, at the University of Calgary invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, in the Masters of Architecture program in the area of Urbanism and Analytics in Architecture.  The anticipated start date is July 1, 2020.

The successful candidate will establish and maintain an active and externally-funded research program, teach graduate courses in the area of their specialization in addition to design studios, seminars/electives in the program and school, contribute to the graduate program, participate in the affairs of the department and faculty, as well as engage with the wider community.

The successful candidate will have a professional degree in architecture (MArch/BArch) and a post-professional degree (ie. MSc or PhD) with a focus in the areas of Urbanism, Evidence-Based Design, Data Collection, Data Analytics, Human Centred Computing, and/or Human Behavior applied to the field of architecture and explored through computation.

Candidates must present evidence of previous professional practice, teaching experience in studio and classroom settings, and have a proposed program of academic research with a focus in the areas of urbanism and analytics in architecture. Research Excellence may be demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, a strong record of research productivity, and a proven record of successfully securing research grants. Evidence of excellence in teaching should be demonstrated via a convincing statement of teaching philosophy and examples of student work to be included in the portfolio. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to service within a university setting or the wider community.

The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape offers graduate level professional course-based programs in architecture, landscape architecture, and planning as well as research degrees at the Master and PhD levels all with strong interdisciplinary traditions.   Our new City Building Design Lab elevates this mission to a new level by bringing 25,000 sq. ft of teaching, research, and community outreach spaces into the heart of downtown Calgary. 

The School’s commitment to innovation is demonstrated through a curriculum that provides students platforms for semester long study abroad programs, weeklong intensive master classes, and growing facilities for computational design, simulation and making. These are supported by award winning faculty members, including practitioners and applied researchers with design portfolios across a variety of media and scales.  

The Masters of Architecture program has embarked on a continuing investment into technology, space and research support focused on community engaged design. We are now expanding this investment by adding to our teaching and research cohort through targeted hires over the next two years.  This position is part of the first phase of expanding our community of highly engaged faculty.
