The National Architectural Accrediting Board (“NAAB”), the sole agency authorized to accredit professional degree programs in architecture in the United States, is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and mission-driven leader to serve as its Executive Director (ED) in the NAAB’s sole office in Washington, DC.
The oldest accrediting agency for architectural education in the United States, the NAAB accredits professional degrees in architecture offered by institutions with U.S. regional accreditation. The NAAB also seeks to advance international accreditation in architectural education in cooperation with its global partners through a variety of activities that complement its core mission. As an accrediting board for 158 programs at more than 136 institutions, the NAAB is committed to the development of standards and procedures that reflect the needs of a dynamic, diverse, and complex society.
In mid-2017, the NAAB board and staff committed to effecting significant organizational transformation. These changes, still ongoing, are both cultural and operational across the programs and processes of accreditation, certification, and validation. The next Executive Director will have an opportunity to build on the NAAB’s solid foundation and develop a sustainable, expansive future for the NAAB within a dynamic environment.
The NAAB seeks an inspirational leader who will implement the strategic plan and vision for an organization poised for continued expansion and will position it for continued success within a climate of significant change and growth within the field. The successful ED will identify the most effective ways to support excellence in the profession. Flowing from this is the ability to advocate and motivate support for the mission, engage in policy and regulatory issues related to accreditation, support staff development, nurture partnerships with the four collateral organizations -- Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA); American Institute of Architects (AIA); American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS); and National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) -- and work effectively and collaboratively with the Board of Directors.

A six-member search committee chaired by the President of the NAAB board will conduct the search. The Committee will be assisted by the search firm Isaacson, Miller.
