About FIU Department of Architecture
With over 450 students, the Department of Architecture educates students in the profession of architecture to become thoughtful practitioners and critical thinkers. Students arrive at various points in their educational careers—as freshmen, as third-year transfer students, and as graduate students to pursue an accredited, professional Master of Architecture degree. The school also offers a post-professionalMasters of Arts in Architecture in which students have opportunities to teach, research, and explore independent topics in close collaboration with our full-time faculty. As a Department residing in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA), we engage in interdisciplinary and innovative collaborative research projects.
The Department’s facilities are located in the award-wining Paul L. Cejas School of Architecture Building designed by Bernard Tschumi, which includes the fabrication, digital, and Structural and Environmental Technologies Labs. Additional facilities include the Miami Beach Urban Studios that houses the new 3D printing technologies CARTA Innovation Lab. Our faculty is engaged in a wide range of research and creative activities in sustainability and climate change, urbanism, affordable housing, green building automation, innovative teaching techniques, culture and history of global modernism, performative scripting, digital fabrication and architectural installations. The Department of Architecture in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts at Florida International University invites applications for a non-tenure earning Instructor position to commence in August 2019. This full-time, 12 month, instructor will report to the Chair of Department of Architecture, serve as the Director of FIU By Design and Instructor, and as a community-based design studio instructor in our Master’s degree programs.

S/he will develop revenue goals, implement a strategic plan, and oversee and execute FIU By Design projects. (See: http://carta.fiu.edu/fiubydesign/).
As a community-based design studio instructor, primary teaching responsibilities will include teaching in advanced community-based, comprehensive design, and/or sustainability studios.
The position requires the terminal professional degree, a Master of Architecture with strong community engagement experience. Teaching experience at a graduate program is also preferred.
