Assistant Professor in Design and Advanced Building Science
Closing date for applications: January 20th, 2019, or until position is filled
The Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism at Carleton University invites applications for a full time, tenure-track appointment in Design and Advanced Building Systems, at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2019.
The candidate will possess a comprehensive and critical understanding of the social, material, and cultural dimensions of comprehensive building systems in a variety of environmental and climatic conditions, with particular emphasis on, but not limited to, the Canadian and Northern environments. The candidate will take leadership in the teaching of integrated environmental control systems, advanced passive technologies, construction materials, structural systems, building envelopes and material assemblies, in both concept and application, primarily at the graduate, but also at the undergraduate levels of architectural education. As the successful candidate will be expected to develop an engaging Advanced Building Systems course in support of our M.Arch studios, experience in innovative building techniques and assemblies, new hybrid materials, digital technologies and fabrication, and their social and cultural dimensions, will be an asset. We seek candidates who have excellent studio teaching skills at both the graduate and the undergraduate level, and who will bring critical questions, research trajectories and experience to bear on their teaching and research.
Qualified candidates must have a professional degree (M.Arch or equivalent), evidence of experience in professional practice and/or a record of academic publications, and successful and rigorous studio teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
In addition, at least one of the following is highly desirable:
- Professional registration in Architecture
- Ph.D. in Architecture or a related field (or be in the final stages of obtaining a Ph.D.)
The faculty of the Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism pursue an array of design research agendas, and there are opportunities for collaboration with several established research and outreach units at the School, including the Carleton Immersive Media Studio (CIMS), C-SALT (The Carleton Solids and Tectonics Lab) and C-URL (Carleton Urban Research Lab).
