About FIU Department of Architecture

With over 450 students, the Department of Architecture educates students in the profession of architecture to become thoughtful practitioners and critical thinkers. Students arrive at various points in their educational careers—as freshmen, as third-year transfer students, and as graduate students to pursue an accredited, professional Master of Architecture degree. The school also offers a post-professionalMasters of Arts in Architecture in which students have opportunities to teach, research, and explore independent topics in close collaboration with our full-time faculty. As a Department residing in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA), we engage in interdisciplinary and innovative collaborative research projects. 

The Department’s facilities are located in the award-wining Paul L. Cejas School of Architecture Building designed by Bernard Tschumi, which includes the Fabrication, Digital, and Structural and Environmental Technologies Labs. Additional facilities include the Miami Beach Urban Studios that houses the new 3D printing technologies CARTA Innovation Lab. Our faculty is engaged in a wide range of research and creative activities in sustainability and climate change, urbanism, affordable housing, green building automation, innovative teaching techniques, culture and history of global modernism, performative scripting, digital fabrication and architectural installations. Position Description

The Department of Architecture in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts at Florida International University invites applications for a nine-month tenure-earning Assistant Professor of Architectural Technology to commence in August 2019. The department seeks an effective teacher and scholar who will be active in both the professional and post-professional masters degree programs, pursue funding opportunities for research and creative activities, and engage in the intellectual advancement of the field through peer-reviewed publications and creative work. Primary teaching responsibilities will include teaching courses in Environmental Systems, Integrated Building Systems, Green Building Technologies, as well as interdisciplinary building and sustainability design studios. Applicants with expertise in building technologies, analysis and generative 3D design modelling software tools, digital fabrication and/or advanced processing, and scripting are encouraged to apply.  

Qualifications

Applicants should have a master degree in Architecture. Candidates with PhD and/or Architectural license will be given priority. Teaching experience at a graduate program is also preferred.
