The School of Interior Design (RSID) ( in the Faculty of Communication and Design (FCAD) at Ryerson University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position, at the Assistant Professor level with emphasis on teaching innovative design studios with an additional area of expertise. The appointment shall be effective July 1, 2019, subject to final budgetary approval. 

RSID offers a rigorous program with a progressive pedagogical agenda that strikes a balance between the theoretical and practical. As the leading Interior Design program in Canada, the School is located in the vibrant center of Toronto and builds upon the active design community and progressive academic research initiatives within the University. 

RSID is housed in a renovated warehouse with a Digital Fabrication Lab, Workshop facilities, Design Resource Centre and open studios. Emphasis is placed on innovative fabrication through analog and digital processes, where hands-on learning is in tandem with novel practices. Accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), RSID has graduated many of the prominent designers practicing today. 

The successful candidate will engage in a combination of teaching, research and service duties. The candidate will be expected to pursue an innovative research program that bridges interiors with allied creative fields. Emphasis is placed on making, structured process, critical thinking, and research to complement the program’s commitment to innovation and design. 

A Masters degree, at a minimum, is required with an undergraduate or graduate degree in the areas of Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture. Candidates must have a strong teaching record at the university level must demonstrate capacity to pursue funded research activities. Creative practice and scholarly works are to be demonstrated through publications, awards, exhibitions, grants, and/or other peer-reviewed activities.
