The College of Design, Construction and Planning (DCP) at the University of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor under the theme of ‘Resilient, Smart, Sustainable and Healthy Built Environments’. This position is part of a major new initiative to develop research initiatives from the College’s strength in the design, construction and planning of the built environment. DCPisuniquely equipped to address the challenges posed by rapid urbanization, climatic and demographic changes, and tension between the built and natural environments.
The successful candidate will join the core of six faculty of the Florida Institute for Built Environment Resilience (FIBER) and have a tenure home in one of the College’s academic units: Architecture, Interior Design, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, or Urban and Regional Planning. This tenure track position will involve research, teaching and service. Candidates should hold a PhD or a related terminal degree and have demonstrated expertise, productivity, and clear research plans. A proven track record of engagement in multi-disciplinary research, design, and/or scholarship is essential. Particular areas of research interest include but are not limited to:
- Systems thinking approaches that bridge the social, ecological, and infrastructural realms;
- Community wellbeing, occupant health, productivity and sustainability at the building, neighborhood and/or urban and regional scale;
- Land-use modeling and public policy guidance, recovery, risk mitigation and adaptation;
- Real estate markets, financial modeling, and resilient development;
- Adaptive capacity, social equity, and resilience in existing and future built environments;
- Smart and resilient cities.
FIBER is geared to become a key global player in the planning, design, construction and management of built environments and, in addition to close interaction with existing faculty, centers and initiatives within DCP, is developing collaborations with other colleges and entities at UF, and with international centers of excellence.
Established in 1925, DCP has become one of the largest colleges of design, construction and planning in the country. The Fall 2016 enrollment of 1,600 students includes approximately 1000 undergraduates and 600 graduate students. The College employs over 160 faculty and staff members.
