The Department of Architecture at the University of Washington invites nominations and applications for a full-time, tenure track position as an Assistant Professor of Digital Technologies and Computational Design, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2019. Tenure track faculty have an annual service period of nine months [Sept 16-June 15].  We are particularly interested in applicants whose research and teaching focus on the intersection of architecture and computation, in one or more areas, including but not limited to, the theory and applications of computational methods in architecture, generative and parametric design and analysis, building information modeling, robotics, visualization, and visual programming.

The Department of Architecture offers Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Design, Master of Architecture, and Master of Science degrees, and participates in a college-wide Ph.D. in the Built Environment program. The department advances the discipline and practice of architecture by educating architects who are responsive and responsible to society, culture and the environment; advancing architectural knowledge through research, scholarship, and critical practice; and using this knowledge to benefit local, regional, national and global communities. 

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The selected candidate will contribute to curricula in undergraduate and graduate programs that include lecture and seminar courses in beginning and advanced digital technologies, studios that explore the implications of computation in design and construction, and graduate student advising in M.Arch., M.S. (Design Computing track) and Ph.D. thesis committees. The selected candidate will be expected to develop an independent research agenda; join the department’s collaborative research group (Design Machine Group) that focuses on digital technologies, fabrication, human-computer interaction, and building performance simulations; and commit to promoting diversity and equity in research, teaching, and/or service. The Department of Landscape Architecture is currently pursuing a parallel hire in digital design technologies. The potential for collaboration between successful candidates is high, along with further collaboration opportunities within the department, college, university, and the greater Seattle area.

Master of Architecture, Master of Science, or Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent), in architecture or related field.

Advanced knowledge of digital technologies and computational design.
