Charlotte, NC

The School of Architecture (SoA) at UNC Charlotte invites applications for a two-year Research Fellowship in Building Technology. As digital technologies transform the building industry, from the techniques used to design and execute buildings to the technologies and systems deployed within them, the SoA seeks to expand its research capacity in innovative building technologies.

The Research Fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in SoA’s Integrated Design Research Lab (IDRL) and state-of-the-art fabrication labs.  The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge advanced building technology research and M.S. curriculum, the outcomes of which include publications, workshops, and public presentations. The Research Fellow will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the IDRL, providing research support including grant proposal writing, desk survey, prototyping, simulation, experimentation, data collection and processing, fabrication, and peer-reviewed publications. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to be an effective researcher, manager and collaborator. Preference will be given to candidates who integrate computational methods in their research process, including a working knowledge of custom scripting (eg. python, EMS, C++, etc.). Evidence of published design work, research projects, grant awards, and/or scholarship is required. An advanced degree in Architecture, Building Science, Design Computation or related field is required; PhD is preferred.  The Research Fellowship is a two-year, 12-month EHRA non-tenure track position directed at emerging scholars in building technology.

The SoA is committed to a culturally and intellectually diverse environment. We celebrate diversity that includes, but is not limited to, ability/disability, age, culture, ethnicity, gender identification, language, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status.  We strongly encourage applications from women and members of under-represented groups.
