Opportunity: The College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) at Kent State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant for Associate Professor in Interior Design with expertise in design and at least one of these areas: lighting, environmental behavior, design theory, digital/computational design, acoustical, methods and materials, or history of interiors. The successful candidate will demonstrate an exceptional ability to teach interior design studios and seminars that extend from their research and/or creative work.
Qualifications: Candidates must hold an advanced degree in Interior Design or related discipline, with at least one degree in Interior Design. They should have substantive experience in design practice, innovative research, and/or university teaching. They should show promise for developing a national reputation through peer-reviewed scholarship disseminated through leading venues. The successful candidate will be expected to lead in the delivery of studio-based and lecture formats within the Interior Design Program, especially related to their area of expertise. Experience with digital tools is preferred.
The ICDA accredited undergraduate Interior Design Program at Kent State University is dedicated to the understanding, development, and improvement of the building environment. The interior design program prepares student to think critically, work creatively and design interior environments humanistically. Additionally, the interior design program and faculty are dedicated to assuring that students develop the leadership and technical skills needed to create compelling interior environments. The program emphasized interdisciplinary education in architecture, art, visual communications, business, and technology. A post-professional Master of Interior Architecture degree is under development.
The College of Architecture and Environmental Designs distinguished faculty, cutting-edge facilities, and established programs in Architecture, Architectural Studies, Interior Design, Construction Management, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Health Care Design, and graduate research in Architecture and Environment Design offer numerous cross-disciplinary opportunities, including partnerships with regional industries and ties to design practitioners. - An advance terminal degree in Interior Design or related discipline
- Must possess at least one professional degree in interior design
- Record of peer recognized scholarly activity
- A Ph.D. is preferred
- Previous teaching experience
- Record of developing and implementing academic programs and courses
- Record of development and participation in cross-disciplinary endeavors
- Record of acquiring grant-supported scholarship
- Professional experience
- Ability to use of digital tools such as Revit, Rhino, 3D MAX , Adobe Creative Suite, BIM, and digital fabrication.
