Bowling Green State University (BGSU), a doctoral/research-high public university in northwest Ohio, seeks a strategic and collaborative leader as its next Dean of the College of Technology, Architecture, and Applied Engineering (TAAE). Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President, the dean will foster a spirit of innovation and position the College to be nimble in serving its students in a world defined by technological change.
BGSU has had a remarkable journey from its founding as a teacher-training institution in 1910 to a leading public university serving 19,000 students on two campuses. The University prides itself on providing educational experiences inside and outside of the classroom where creative ideas and entrepreneurial achievements can benefit others throughout the region, the State of Ohio, the nation, and the world. Today, BGSU has nationally recognized programs and research in the natural and social sciences, education, arts, business, health and wellness, humanities, and applied technologies.
TAAE provides students with applied career preparation in architecture and environmental design, aviation studies, engineering technology, robotics, construction management, quality systems, and visual communication technology. Students develop technical knowledge and skills, and cultivate professional values and leadership abilities for success in these industries. These programs celebrate and share a strong commitment to experiential and discovery-based learning as they prepare students to meet the demands of 21st Century professional and technology-based careers.
The new dean will lead the College to be a global destination for innovative and impactful teaching, scholarship, and applied research. The successful dean will leverage the diverse strengths of the departments to champion a cohesive vision for TAAE that emphasizes profession-based education; revitalize current programs and introduce new ones to meet workforce demands; invest in attracting a broader student body that includes traditional and non-traditional students; enhance the College’s commitment to building a community that fosters, celebrates, and appreciates diversity and inclusion; develop a physical and financial infrastructure that ensures short- and long-term success; and enhance engagement with local communities and industry to bolster the College’s signature co-op program.
Minimum credential requirements include: An earned doctorate from an accredited institution and teaching, scholarly research/creative activity, and service credentials meriting appointment to the rank of full professor with tenure; a minimum of three to five years in academic leadership roles in a university setting; experience with accrediting organizations pertinent to the College of TAAE such as TAC-ABET; NAAB; ATMAE; and ACCE; and experience working with a variety of constituencies to create and support mutually beneficial partnerships, development opportunities, and/or other externally-focused initiatives.
