The Department of Architecture in the College of Design at Iowa State University invites applicants for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure.
The department seeks a candidate with a strong academic standing with a national or internationally recognized record of scholarship, as well as the ability to direct the Department of Architecture‘s two graduate degrees: Master of Architecture, a professional degree, and Master of Science, a post-professional research degree. We welcome applicants with expertise from the primary areas of our curriculum—Design, History-Theory-Culture, Technology, Computation & Communications, Practice, or any other relevant area of teaching and research. Architecture Faculty are given a high level of support towards the development of their scholarship and we encourage the application of provocative thinkers, innovative designers, and/or critical academics whose work has contributed in advancing the discourse or practice of architecture.
Serving at the pleasure of the department chair the Director of Graduate Education (DoGE) shapes the direction of graduate education within the department. Responsibilities include coordinating the grad curriculum, chairing the Graduate Committee, teaching, advising students, coordinating with the directors of the dual-degree programs in Urban Design and Sustainable Environments, and working closely with college staff to recruit and admit new students. Our M.S program has seen growth over the last few years in areas of theory-history, sustainable design, digital fabrication, computation, and urbanism, and the DoGE will have the opportunity to re-envision and develop the MS program in the coming years.
