Washington State University - Pullman, WA; permanent full-time tenured/tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Architecture.  The School of Design and Construction seeks applications for a position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Architecture program.   

This position will be held in the Architecture program which is part of the School of Design and Construction is distinctive in higher education in that four of the major disciplines of the Built Environment are held within one School:  Architecture, Construction Management, Interior Design and Landscape Architecture.  With roughly 650 graduate and undergraduates the SDC is one of the largest schools at WSU and is uniquely positioned to engage in interdisciplinary research and teaching.  The collaborative make-up of the School enables faculty to work with students from different disciplines in an integrated environment with the goal of promoting and increasing effectiveness within the professions.  Integration opportunities also extend to the College of Engineering and Architecture via the potential for collaborating on teaching and research. 

Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will have the ability and desire to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels in selected aspects of Architecture and Construction Management as it relates to structural design and/or construction, architecture, and current construction technologies, assemblies, and materials.  Additionally, responsibilities of the successful candidate will include conducting research, participating in School committees, student mentoring, and a willingness to offer continuing education and short courses to industry and students.

Required:  Master’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering or related discipline; three to five (3-5) years’ professional experience in a structural design capacity; ability to conduct research and scholarly activities in a defined area of interest; ability to work in a team environment and to be involved in collaborative projects.  For Associate Professor, the candidate must have a PhD in Civil/Structural Engineering or related discipline plus five years of teaching and research experience in an accredited professional degree program in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management by the date of hire and at least 6 years as an assistant professor or equivalent.  And, an ability and desire to teach at undergraduate level for Architecture and Construction Management and graduate level in Architecture via selected aspects of the curriculum (e.g., structures I [statics & strength of material], structures II, structures III, and materials & methods).  Candidates must be able to demonstrate understanding and experience in structural design/construction, architecture, and current construction technologies, assemblies, and materials.

Preferred:  PhD in Civil/Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related discipline.  ABD will be considered with an expectation of completion within one (1) year of hiring date; professional registration/certification such as PE, AIA, LEED, CPC, or DBIA; previous teaching experience at the university level; Demonstrated development of funded research and/or scholarly achievements; ability to develop and deliver elective courses in architecture and/or construction management; experience in structural design for commercial and/or large scale residential construction; experience and ability in alternative project delivery and/or virtual design and construction (VDC).
