QUALIFICATIONSRequired: Terminal degree (PhD, MFA or MID) in interior design, architecture, or closely-related field; professional practice/industry work experience, preferably in hospitality or health care; preparation or experience in higher education teaching; ability to articulate the intersections of faith and learning; collaborative working style (strong communication and interpersonal skills) with colleagues and students and commitment to CIDA accreditation. Desirable: Experience in supervision/mentoring of students; NCIDQ and/or LEED certification; study abroad experience; research and/or creative scholarship potential.


RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate interior design studios (introductory and advanced) and lecture-based courses with potential for future graduate teaching; coordinate the interior design internship and develop relationships with firms; develop global engagement experiences for students and faculty; build community design partnerships; participate in relevant professional activities; and provide service to the university, community, and profession.

RANK AND SALARY:  Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

General Information: The Family and Consumer Sciences Department, in the Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences (, has approximately 500 undergraduate students with 22 full-time faculty positions and 13 part-time/adjunct faculty members with four full-time and one-part time support staff.  The department is organized in four divisions: Apparel Studies, Child and Family Studies, Interior Design, and Nutrition Sciences. The Piper Center for Family Studies and Child Development is an arm of the Child and Family Studies program and employs a director, assistant director and 12 teachers. Baylor University’s CIDA-accredited Interior Design program offers candidates the opportunity to engage in multidisciplinary teaching/research and examine topics on the forefront of academic discourse related to the built environment, including health, sustainability, service-learning, digital fabrication, and evidence-based design. In addition, the Interior Design division and Robbins College recognize the broad nature of interior design scholarship and encourage candidates with strong backgrounds to apply.
