Assistant/Associate Professor of Architecture: Performance-Driven Design

The faculty invites motivated and energetic applicants to be a part of an emerging design school within a land-grant institution where faculty merge teaching, research and creative activity, and service to the university and community. The College of Architecture and the Architecture Program within pursues an innovative design research curriculum in which faculty interests, evolving pedagogies, and engagement combine in a creative environment that balances experimentation and innovation with professional and environmental responsibility. Uniting degree programs in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Community & Regional Planning, and with various minors including Product Design, the College promotes cross-disciplinary collaboration while maintaining a commitment to academic accreditation, student performance, and service to the future of its constituent professions. The Architecture Program consists of a pre-professional Bachelor of Science in Design followed by a 2-year M.Arch degree. The program also offers a 3-year M.Arch track and a research-based MS degree.

The Architecture Program in the College of Architecture seeks highly motivated candidates, versed in the discipline of architecture with a record of combining design teaching with a progressive design research agenda and a solid foundation of speculative inquiry in the application of performance-driven design in their research and teaching. The tenure-track candidate is expected to teach required courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as advanced seminars in a specific area of expertise. Recommended areas of emphasis within performance-driven design include, but are not limited to applications in building construction materials, structural optimization, energy efficiency in building envelop design, and energy modeling/evaluation.

Required Qualifications
• Either a professional degree in architecture (e.g. B. Arch) and a graduate degree; or a terminal degree in architecture (e.g. M. Arch)
• Ph.D. in architecture or field related to the built environment

Preferred Qualifications
1. Ability to teach architectural design studios; indicated by student work in the teaching portion of the portfolio.
2. Recognized record of accomplishment in creative activity, scholarship and/or grant funded research in focus area; indicated in CV or portfolio of work.
3. Experience applying research focus to creative work or design studio teaching; demonstrated in portfolio
4. Research or creative activity with demonstrated interest in intra-, inter-, and/or trans-disciplinary collaboration
5. Professional licensure for those without PhD

• Personal creative activity, scholarship, research, and/or professional work related to area of focus (25 pages & 50mb max)
