The Team

The Design Fabrication Zone (DFZ) at Ryerson University is an interdisciplinary incubator for design and fabrication, where emerging entrepreneurs build their ideas. From concept development to three-dimensional prototyping and beyond, the DFZ facilitates the incubation and acceleration of project ideas and strategically propels them towards real-life application and business innovation. The DFZ has yielded over 250 members, 80 projects, 70 press articles and 18 commercial businesses.

The Opportunity
An experienced leader, the Director, Design Fabrication Zone (DFZ) provides strategic leadership in the area of design fabrication and entrepreneurship. The successful candidate is responsible for the general management and growth of the DFZ, where you will take an active role in managing, building, and developing relationships to ensure visibility and presence of Ryerson University in the design fabrication and entrepreneurship community within and beyond Toronto, and for leading the day-to-day operation of the DFZ, aiming for high quality performance according to Ryerson Zone Learning Ecosystem and DFZ strategic plans.

Additionally you will take the lead in the development and implementation of programming and outreach initiatives for the Zone, as well as ensures the service quality, program delivery, excellence, and managerial and financial functions of the DFZ.

Qualifications

Are you an entrepreneur with a proven track record for building programs and initiatives?


You have a University degree, in Architecture, interior design or related field with five (5) -ten (10) years’ of relevant experience in high-level design fabrication and project management. Your previous experience in traditional and advanced design fabrication software and technology will allow you effectively program and deliver learning modules by demonstrating how new and existing technologies, materials, and processes contribute to an advanced and sustainable prototyping culture.

You are a self-starter, with the ability to take an idea to implementation/ability to build relationships and work with stakeholders from different areas, with different agendas, consensus builder and creates engagement without alienation. You have exemplary interpersonal and people management skills with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a proven track record of on time and on budget program development and delivery. Additionally, you have strong communication skills both oral and written to speak effectively to a variety of audiences as public speaking and presentations will comprise a significant portion of the position.
