The Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for one to two Visiting Instructors (Visiting Landscape Designers in Residence) for the 2013-2014 academic year.This 10-month residency provides emerging Landscape Architects and designers with a platform from which to experiment and expand upon their pedagogical approaches and research agendas for landscape architectural practice, while simultaneously providing students with a robust and challenging educational experience. Position will begin August 16, 2013. Requirements for this position include a master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Urban Design, or Art. Applicants with a PhD and prior degrees in design will be considered. Applicants should submit work that demonstrates an experimental approach to design, research, and teaching. Priority will be given to those experienced in generative studio processes and who seek a creative research agenda/teaching strategy that combines several of the following disciplinary specialties: ecology, representation, materials and methods, human health, history or theory. Applications will be evaluated based on the quality of the required course proposal, as well as the candidates design portfolio, CV, and supporting references. The Designer in Residence will teach two studios, a course in the core curriculum, and a seminar in their area of expertise, at the undergraduate and graduate level. The residency will culminate in a solo exhibition of creative research and student work created during their time at the University of Illinois. The Department of Landscape Architecture, founded in 1907, is one of the oldest and most respected landscape architecture programs in North America.
