Job Overview:

The Department of Architecture + Interiors at Drexel University seeks qualified applicants for a full-time, 9-month faculty position. We seek an individual with a demonstrated commitment to teaching, innovative thinking and collaboration. Commencing on September 1, 2013, the position may be renewed annually based on performance. The successful candidate will have his/her primary responsibilities in the Architecture Program but a close working relationship with the Interiors Program is also expected.

The Architecture Program currently offers two paths to a NAAB-accredited Bachelor of Architecture degree within a work-study educational model. A seven-year, Part-Time Evening Option serves a large population of traditional and non-traditional students. The unique 2 + 4 Option caters to recent high-school graduates who follow two years of full-time study with four years of part-time study in the evening. Students in both options gain professional working experience in architectural and building industry firms while attending classes in the evening. Essential Functions:

  • Coordination and integration of analog and digital architectural representation in the Architecture Program.
  • Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the foundation design studios and representation courses with a special focus on the integration of analog drawing and graphic skills including sketching, diagramming and other representation techniques with advanced digital and modeling techniques.
  • The new hire will be encouraged to teach courses beyond the core curriculum.
  • Participation in the ongoing synthesis of the Architecture and Interiors Programs with a focus on introductory design and representation curriculum.
  • Service at program, department, college and university level is expected.
  • The candidate’s potential for research is encouraged and will be considered in the selection process.

Qualifications:

  • Superior graphic representation skills.
  • Mastery of both analog representation techniques and of the most current and pertinent digital representation techniques. The ability to seamlessly transition between traditional and digital techniques is of key importance.  
    • Conceptual and analytic diagramming.
    • Free-hand and constructed drawing techniques.
    • Orthographic representational techniques.
    • Drawings illustrating analysis of building systems.
    • Analog and digital rendering techniques.
    • Superior skills of the following software packages are essential: Adobe Design Suite, SketchUp, Rhino, AutoCad and Revit.
    • Familiarity with emerging environmental software packages such as Autodesk Green Building Studio and EcoTech is desirable.
    • An accredited professional degree in architecture or the equivalent is required and a Masters degree preferred.
    • A minimum of 5 years of professional architectural experience.
    • Teaching experience is also highly desirable.
    • Candidates should have (or be in the process of obtaining) appropriate registration credentials.
